my iPad model A1396 is compatibility with the iOS 12 update. Still iTunes and also updating through our wifi net gets "software is up to date" with vers. 9.3.5. Any idea how to solve this problem?

No. It is not. A1396 corresponds to an iPad 2, which cannot be updated beyond iOS 9.3.5.
That iPad model ID number corresponds to a 7-year old iPad 2nd generation model with both WiFi and cellular data.
An iPad 2 cannot be upgraded past iOS 9.3.5.

Sorry, my iPad model A1396 is compatible with the latest iOS 12 update. But no matter what I try, it doesn't update past iOS 9.3.5... replying that my iPad software is up to date.
Do you have any idea how to force the update to iOS12?
The iPad 2 can NOT be upgraded beyond 9.3.5.
