Why are my messaging colors darker?

I had this same thing happen to me. I personally love it. It seems to be related to the Accessibility Settings, primarily the "Increase Contrast" option. I guess I had it on from a while back. If you want the lighter colors back just disable this feature. Apparently it also gives you the darker folders and dock as well if you enable the "Reduce Transparency" function in accessibility settings.

this happened with my phone when i updated as well but has since gone back to the normal shades of blue and green. try checking your accessibility settings. i had the higher contrast turned on and when it was off is when I noticed the color of the messages being darker.

Have a look under Settings/General/Accessibility/Display Accommodations and see if you have “Colour Filters” enabled.

If you go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Increase Contrast, switch that off. Your message bubbles should now show up as normal.

If you have selected Increase Contrast under Accessibility in your settings, it will cause this. It apparently was not the case in previous versions of iOS.

Try turning off 'Increase Contrast' and it will go back to normal.

I'm not aware of any other setting in iOS that could alter screen colours, so not sure what else you can try. I've updated my X and the green/blue bubbles appear the same to me so I don't think it's a common issue, but others may come along that have a different experience, time may tell.

If you have a further look through the Settings of iOS12 you might just be lucky and discover something, other than that you could try a Restore of iOS, but if all else is fine and your photo's appear ok it might not be worth it. You probably want have long to wait anyhow before the first point update comes along and that may fix it for you.

Mine is the same way, and I thought it was the new iOS update as well. My daughter happened to notice and ask why mine was darker, and I told her that’s the new update... or so I thought. Couldn’t find anything in settings that changed it back or that was different from her’s that would make it so that.

Mine is like that too! I was really confused because I have friends who did the update and theirs is normal like before.
