Deleting vpn profile that no longer exists

A couple of years ago, while working at a university, I added a vpn profile to both iPad and iPhone. When I left the university, I deleted the app that had connected me [Junos Pulse, via egate.sandiego.edu]. The university switched to a different vpn, and the app is no longer available. However, when I updated my system to ios 12, I got a message in Settings that an update was required. The instructions indicate I need to use the Junos Pulse app. This is not possible. Is there any other way to remove that particular vpn. I am not given the option of deleting the profile.
