Apple Podcast on IOS12 broken BMW carplay

I, too, have a similar problem with the Podcast app after upgrading to iOS12. I have a Honda and Carplay seems to work well with Google maps but not with the Podcast app. The screen will stop responding to touch and the app regularly can't find its own content. This leads to me taking my eyes off the road to touch the screen (=safety hazard). The problem will disappear if I turn off the car and re-start but this is not an option on my commute. Before the iOS12 upgrade the app was stable.

Help please as I need my podcasts back.

I use an iPhone 6s with iOS12

I have had issues with my iPhone 8 and 2018 Chevy Equinox as well. Similar to this -- touching a podcast will flash the item but doesn't trigger a selection. Today, after I'd been driving for a while, the entire interface went black except for the "Now Playing >" button at the top.

Other CarPlay apps appear to be unaffected. I'm going to try deleting and reinstalling Podcasts to see if that makes any difference.

Same issues on a Sony Xav100 when upgrading to iOS12. NPR One, IHeartRadio, and Podcasts open as a black screen. Siri has some responsiveness, but doesn't think that Location Services are turned on (they are).

USB connection is good. Reset the Sony. Restarted my Iphone 8. Forgot the Sony. Restrictions are off.

Having a similar issue with iOS12 on an iPhone 6 and a 2018 Audi. Carplay seems to work fine except for the Podcast app. Erratic behavior that will appear "fixed" if I reboot the phone, but the behavior reappears shortly after the reboot. Never had this issue prior to iOS12.

Same issues with my BMW 530i. I rebooted my iPhone 7. (Hold down volume down control and start button at same time to initiate a reset.) I can now play podcasts, but cannot access the top menu where stations is located. I believe it is using the episodes list. Apple clearly didn’t test carplay compatibility. This is extremely disappointing!

I contacted Apple support via Twitter. The agent did their best to help, but was unable to resolve. The next step recommened was to backup and “reimage” at which point I called it a night. Before this they suggested I check out BMW audio firmware updates for my 2017 530I which I did online and none were specified for this issue.

I have a similar problem with 2017 Golf Alltrack and iphone 7 with IOS 12. Podcast doesn't even show any of the controls on the Apple Carplay, have to control it from the phone. It started with IOS 12...makes me wish I wasn't an early adopter. Apple, where are you?

Similar issue with BMW X3. All other carplay apps (including Waze!!) working great but Podcast app having issues with touch and control knob selection. At times screen goes black and the "Now Playing" screen has no data. Have tried rebooting/resetting but problem reoccurs.

Hopefully a fix is coming soon.

Same issue but with Camaro CarPlay.

Podcast app is clearly toast after the 12 update. Unfortunately they will fix on their own time and we will just have to wait. That’s what  does. I’m gonna try a different podcast app.

Same for me too; I'm new to CarPlay, so this has always been a problem for me. I cannot say it is connected to any particular thing changing. iPhone 6s / iOS 12 / 2018 Honda CR-V. Podcast app completely non functional through the car's display. The only thing that seems to work is the "currently playing" button. Siri integration with the app is also spotty.

Has anyone else noticed that the phone gets quite hot while using the Podcast app with CarPlay? It doesn't seem to get hot with anything else except Waze, which I use infrequently.

Uninstalling and reinstalling does not do anything. The only way temp fix it is to reboot your phone. I also tried overcast and it is also affected. This issue was caused by IOS 12. Hopefully they fix faster then they fix ATV issues.

2017 Audi A4. Iphone XS Max and IOS12. Love that Waze was added, bud podcasts are bugging out.

The podcast screen kinda flickers when I use the wheel. I can’t move the cursor to the right side. Today, the podcast would play, but the car’s screen stayed black.

Reading these posts, it definitely seems like the operating system rather than the car or phone

I am experiencing the same issue with 2018 bmw 530ix using idrive 6. In addition to above mentioned issues with podcast application, my iphone xs max produces lots of heat when playing podcast episode.

I am also having this problem in my BMW with carplay. Very annoying because I listen to a lot of podcasts. The only remedy for now is to use Siri to play podcasts which is hit and miss

iOS 12.0.1 btw. Never had this problem before iOS 12. About the only issue I have with iOS 12, otherwise iOS 12 is fantastic and very fast OS.

iOS 12 killed the Podcast app, then 12.0.1 has killed Audible, Audiobooks.com, Books and GooglePlay (I am on the road a lot!). This is in both our cars - BMW X3 and VW Golf - so definitely an iOS issue and not the cars. Given the combined cost of CarPlay as an option in both cars, this is totally unacceptable from Apple.
