how to play macbook over cox modem router?

I just moved. My previous setup had my Apple router hooked into the Cox modem via ethernet. There was a port in the Express box for audio out to receiver. At the new place, Cox put in a different modem, which is also a router. However, it does not have Audio out. Not sure now how to get tunes from macbook to stereo receiver as we did before.

Hi, Katie!

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. I see in your post you've recently moved, and AirPlay is no longer working since setting up your new internet service equipment. Specifically, you received a new router/modem combination from your provider, and it does not have the same output options (specifically for audio) that you used to. I know unpacking and getting settled would be so much more fun with music to listen to, so I'm happy to help!

With an AirPort Express router, you can use AirPlay to stream music from iTunes on a computer, or an iOS device, to a set of AirPlay compatible speakers connected to the AirPort Express audio-out port. This will happen regardless of whether your modem has an audio-out port itself.

First, make sure you have a set of AirPlay compatible speakers, and connect them to the AirPort Express. You can use AirPlay system requirements - Apple Support to find out how to tell if your speakers are AirPlay compatible. Once they're connected, just use the AirPlay option in iTunes on your computer to start an audio stream: How to AirPlay audio - Apple Support .

If you're still having trouble getting AirPlay to work after confirming you have compatible speakers and everything is set up correctly, you can troubleshoot further using the steps in If you can't use AirPlay or mirror your device's screen - Apple Support .

Thanks, Sterling R. I think I forgot to give enough information in my first post. I don't have airplay speakers, and I did not under the previous setup either. I think in my old setup, had the audio 1/8" plug from Airport Express to the receiver's AUX input (with a mini to RCA adapter). I could still do this again. If I plug in the Airport Express, will it automatically connect to the WIFI network being projected by the Cox modem?
