I didn’t know that. I was able to bring up the dock, and discovered that by accident, but I didn’t realize that you could still invoke the app switcher by stopping the swipe up in the middle of the screen.

With the new iOS 12, you make the Control Panel/App Switcher visible by swiping down from the top right corner of the iPad's screen.

I tried that. The control panel comes up but no open apps. I have to push the home button twice to see open apps.
I have been referring to the online iPad iOS 12 Guide, but haven’t downloaded the book in the Books app yet. I guess I better get it done. 😉
