Will Apple fix this?

So here's my situation;

I bought a 2.16 GHz Core Duo MacBook Pro in July of 2006. I noticed after a month or so that the finish had these little specks near the palm rest areas. I thought nothing of it and thought it was just dirt that would wash away with my frequent cleanings of the machine. About around the time of Halloween I notice that not only did the specks multiply, but that they are bigger. At that point I had read that it was a paint issue and it wouldn't be repaired under warranty. I thought that was crazy seeing how this puppy isn't painted, but anodized. So move back to about a week I was looking through some of the old posts and such and I found out that this wasn't a finish issue, but a much bigger problem, corrosion. I read that the corrosion my only look surface deep, but it can actually be quite deeper and cause machine failures and stress points in the case.

So here is my question. Knowing that it has been 7 months since my initial purchase and the time it took me to realize this issue was worse than initially thought, would bringing this in to my local Apple store get me it fixed?

I need to know because I don't want to spend a fortune on transport only to find out that the Geniuses think it's an illegitimate problem and would require parts and service fees to have it fixed. I have read that Apple reapaired this on the Aluminum G4 PowerBooks.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8), 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo; 1GB Ram; 100GB Hardrive; ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
