Screen keeps getting magnified extremely large. Why?

Sometimes my iPhone X screen becomes magnified to the point of not being able to do anything on it. I close the screen and open it again and still giant magnification. Can’t turn it off because power button isn’t visible. I keep playing with it and keep shutting the screen off and eventually I get a normal screen and then I turn it off and restart. It will be fine for several days to weeks and then out of the blue magnified screen again. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
