Where is the ECG App?

Just picked up my apple watch today and was excited to try the ECG app. It is nowhere to be found. The launch presentation sure promoted that feature. So where is the app? That feature is one of the key ones of why I bought the watch.

Thanks for asking about the new ECG feature.

Check here for availability in your region: ECG

ECG will not work on beta versions of watchOS or iOS and requires the current version of iOS and watchOS.

I too was a bit misled about the feature and returned my watch rather than be stuck with it without the feature. The source of my information came from the Apple website. The web address is (apple.com/watchos/feature-availability). At the top of the page is states "Some watchOS features are not currently available in every region or language. Choose a feature below to see if it’s supported in your region and language". When I selected the ECG function it indicated that is was available in

Built-in Apps: ECG

  • Guam
  • Puerto Rico
  • United States
  • US Virgin Islands

I purchased my watch based on the information on Apple's website. I even suggested to Apple in a phone conversation later that I thought that possibly they should put a disclaimer on that page to inform people that the function is not yet available. As you can see Apple never did change that. Clearly it's easy to see how some people might be confused by this, but again I don't think Apple really cares.

******! Would not have spent the money on the Series 4. This information should be posted at purchase.

And it is posted in the very page I linked to above if you take the time read it before purchasing.

Also, its not like its not coming at all. It will just be coming a bit later. So you will still get it on a Apple Watch 4 once it released.

Why the pressing need to have it now?

Why a decreased price? The watch as is will have the App. The watch you bought, will get the app. They never said it would be available at launch. They never lied to you. And the fact it took a few more months to get the FDA approval for medical devices does not change the fact that the watch will get the ECG App.

Talk about being unable to wait for something to appear.

What difference would it have made to buy it now and wait for it to be available, or to buy it when the app had been released? Same watch, same price, same App. The end result is exactly the same.

They already gave a tentative release date, that is about all anyone does now. If you sign up and pay your money and become a developer you can get the beta software. Other than that there is no beta testing of Watch software because if an install problem occurs to roll it back you have to send in the Watch to Apple.
