Where is the ECG App?

Just picked up my apple watch today and was excited to try the ECG app. It is nowhere to be found. The launch presentation sure promoted that feature. So where is the app? That feature is one of the key ones of why I bought the watch.

Yes thoroughly agree Beta EKG software concerned with diagnosing a human beings heart rhythm condition is a pretty serious reason to get it right on the “Real Realeased” approved tested SW. For are or my hearts cardiac health. Wouldn’t want an FDA issue like I have with my AICD/pacemaker which is under an FDA recall for an early battery depletion notice. But that’s my problem. Really?

So I can check my regression into or back into AFIB or worse NS Ventricular Tachycardia.

But that isn't necessarily the primary reason. I really want to prove to myself and my several cardio and EP doctors that I am still AFIB free, before my ICD/Pacemaker removal and replacement surgery is on. 3-4 months left of ICD/pacemaker battery life. Then med device surgery, supposed to be a simple outpatient type. Nothings been simple in my med plagued life. I hoping surely Apple Series 4 everything watch will help me in many ways. Like exercising.

Bring on the EKG(ECG) SW Apple.

Exactly. I was ready to buy two for my wife and myself. But I was lucky enough to notice an article that pointed out the app delay. Now we’re waiting for the app release. Not holding my breath.

And I’m a long time Apple fan. I’ve got a house full of Apple gear. I’m just not such an extreme supporter that I can overlook this particular situation.

Yes, Absolutely Yonian and also IdrisSeabright, I agree that the EKG(ECG) whichever you prefer to define it SW has to 1) be accurate, proven, uneventful, non-negatively observed by the human world public when released

2) Yes, the US FDA regulatory will and shall be involved and approval gained from that agency which oversees Life monitoring medical grade devices and systems as this Watch intends to be. Why not.

My AICD/Pacemaker medical implanted device had/has went through that same approval cycle format. It is a St. Jude Medical Co device I've had since May2011, and for my model and type has been on an FDA recall notice for early battery depletion. Not a good sign of protection inside my upper left chest quadrant.

Apple Watch Series 4 SW should be no different in gaining FDA and other approvals.

My concern is that Apple should be more transparent and pro-active in their consumer awareness and interest in the purpose of this heart(cardiac) monitoring function. My thoughts are not Apples thoughts necessarily.

In what way should Apple be "more transparent"? They have announced a time frame for the release of the app. If you've had any experience with software development, you'll know that giving an exact release date can be challenging. Then, add in government regulators.

If they give a definite date and release it ahead of that date, people will say that absolutely anything that they think is wrong with the app is the result of Apple rushing it. If the give an exact date and miss it, everyone will be up in arms that they broke their promise.

What else could Apple realistically tell you until they have a release date?

Oct 29, 2018 10:41 AM in response to IdrisSeabright

Maybe Apple should not have even mentioned this item until it was actually a functioning product. I bought my watch for this exact function but then found out it was not currently available for the watch. I take the blame for not reading the fine print somewhere that I never saw, but I also have no need for an $800.00 product that doesn't yet do what I purchased it for. I will be returning mine tomorrow, as there seems to be no date for this function to be available.

I could understand this if Apple had used that even to announce the Apple iECG device and all it did was do an ECG. But they announced a new version of the Apple Watch and mentioned a new feature they were adding to it. And they made it clear that an update later in the year would activate it. In the meantime it would do all the many other things that the Watch can do. Is yours not doing these things?

You might want to wait until Wednesday to return it since Apple is holding an event tomorrow.

Yes understand maybe. Why would I want to return my $800 series 4 back to Apple store Wed??

I’m just getting used to it barely, and the HR monitor is excellent. It “The Super Watch of my Lifetime for exercise and communications and entertainment and music and looks feels good too. The software up dates will be forthcoming but I’m sure)maybe) that Apple Developers & The FDA and The AGA and The American College Of Cardioloy and all of the AFIB tracking monitoring enthusiasts will be watching and taggin and pinging the World community sonfercently that

Apple stocks will shutter(maybe). That’s a lot of maybes, but does not Life have the same a lot of maybes. Oh look at all the exercising phanatics that want, will use and continue to buy high end technical health support trackers.

What did we do before the digital watches and Fitness measurement tech devices? Our ancestors worked on the farm or factory with 🐎 horses mules or dirty machines.

Apple Watch and Apple iPhone does know software or they wouldn’t be #1 in the high end

World technical commo market.

Bring it on 🍎.

I appreciate your comments. I have plenty of watches that do what watches do, and I don't go to apple events or watch their event streaming video as many others do, so I missed the information about it coming later. As I stated I purchased this watch for a specific feature and for now that feature is not available. Not a big deal. I will take your advice and wait and see what information come from the Wednesday event.
