Unable to listen to explicit music on Apple Music

Hi guys! So I just got my iPhone XS Max yesterday and I am having trouble listening to my explicit music. When I click on it I get a prompt to enable explicit content in restrictions and I have already done that. I restarted my phone too but I still can’t play my music. Can someone please help me? I’m running on IOS 12.

Hi Angad615,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re having trouble playing explicit music on your iPhone. I’m happy to help. I suggest reviewing the below steps to make sure you’ve adjusted your restriction settings accordingly:

Prevent explicit content and content ratings

You can also prevent the playback of music with explicit content and movies or TV shows with specific ratings. Apps also have ratings that can be configured using content restrictions.

To restrict explicit content and content ratings:

  1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions, then tap Content Restrictions.
  3. Choose the settings you want for each feature or setting under Allowed Store Content.

Here are the types of content that you can restrict:

  • Ratings For: Select the country or region in the ratings section to automatically apply the appropriate content ratings for that region
  • Music, Podcasts & News: Prevent the playback of music, music videos, podcasts, and news containing explicit content
  • Music Profiles & Posts: Prevent sharing what you're listening to with friends and seeing what they're listening to

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
If that doesn't help, I suggest disabling "Content & Privacy Restrictions altogether, restarting your device, and then trying to play your music. If it successfully plays, try enabling your restrictions again.
Take care.

Hi.

I was experiencing the same problem, thus why I'm here.

In my case, I tried and tried to turn off the restrictions but it wasn't working. Then I turned off the screen time password (mine was enabled), and tried to purchase a music video on the Itunes Store (in the Iphone). Instead of showing the usual pop up directing me to Screen Time (Restrictions), it asked me whether I allowed or not to play restricted content on the Iphone, and when I pressed Allow, all restricted content was thus available to me.

I have been working on this issue all night and have been seeking help from Apple Support but all in vain. Found a simple solution which will help your cause...

Go to ITunes on your phone-try to purchase any explicit content like a song or a video- just tap on it you don’t actually need to spend any money- you will get a pop up asking you to enable explicit content- enable it and viola! That changes everything.

Now go to music and you’ll notice all the songs with the E tag are now at your disp
