Messages App from banner notification won’t open app - ios12

When I get a text message and i swipe down on the banner notification, clicking on the text does not seem to open the Messages app. This started happening after getting ios12. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

Hi,

I actually noticed this on my iPhone 6S when updated it to iOS 12 on Monday, but I got the iPhone XS Max yesterday and I have the same exact issue. I don’t think restarting my phone, backing it up, or putting the phone in recovery mode is going to fix it. I believe this may be something Apple removed in iOS 12 and I wanted confirmation that I am not the only one with this issue or if someone knows how to bring the feature back, to let me know. Maybe I should try to re-explain what the issue is:

1. I am looking at “Safari” when a text message comes through and I get the banner at the top

2. I swipe down on the banner to read the message and reply while “Safari” is open in the background

3. But then I decide I want to answer the message through the actual Messages app, because I want to attach a photo for example

4. Before iOS 12: I could touch the open message box (from when I swiped down on the banner) and the Messages app would open right to the conversation with that individual

With iOS 12: Touching the open message box doesn’t do anything. I would have to close out of the open banner, close out of the “Safari” app, scroll to the Messages app, open the Messages app, find the conversation with the individual who texted me, and then reply.

Greetings, Raina.

It appears that you're having an issue with Notifications you receive on your iPhone since upgrading to iOS 12. When you tap the notification for a text message, it doesn't open the thread in the Messages application, and I'm happy to help.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Restart your iPhone. Once it's returned to the Home screen, test the issue.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- If restarting your iPhone didn't resolve the issue, please be sure to have a fresh backup to keep your personal information safe. In order to back up your Health data, the backup needs to be encrypted. iCloud does this automatically, but iTunes doesn't. If you'd like to use iTunes to back up your iPhone, refer to this article: About encrypted backups in iTunes

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Even though the title of the article isn't specific to your issue, the section titled "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" will walk you through all the steps to reinstall the iOS software on your device. Test the issue once again.

Let me know how that goes, and take care!
