.hidd is preventing MacMini going to sleep

Hi, For years, I put my Macmini to sleep via the apple menu. Recently that has not been possible. In fact, I cannot put it to sleep at all. I have checked may of the blogs and tried all the tricks and tips.

The only way I can put it to sleep is by Force Quitting .hidd via the Activity Monitor. When I wake it up from sleep, then until I force quit .hidd, the macmini will not go to sleep.

Of interest, on restarting from sleep, after force quiting hidd, the WiFi will not autoconnect - need to be manually connected.

I have checked many of the blogs and nothing so far has helped. Any ideas?

BTW, this issue has only recently started to happen. Worked fine for years.

Many thanks in advance...

Mac mini, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)
