Can i run ios 12 on my iphone 4s?

I was told by a business associate that iOS12 does not support my iPhone 4s. Is this true?

Yes it is true. An iPhone 4s has not been able to run any iOS version higher than 9.3.5.

iOS 12 requires an iPhone 5s or later.
