Customizing Assistive Touch Functions

Recently my home button broke on my iPhone 6 and i've been stuck using the assistive touch button as an alternative home button. My friend has the same problem, but managed to make it so that clicking the assistive touch button once acted as the home button. In other words, no menu would pop up when he clicked the assistive touch button; simply clicking it once would act as the home button. He also managed to make it where holding down the button locked the phone, and several other things. He does not remember how he did it, and I can't figure out for the life of me how to do this. If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

iPhone 6, iOS 11.0.3
