"NOT" Receiving mail messages

Day 3, and still cannot receive mail messages. I have 3 Mac's and they are all suffering the same problem. My POP mail accounts are fine, I can see the mail sitting in my .MAC account but they wont download into "Mail" or "Entourage"
All I get is "Receiving mail messages 36" then time-out Error 111

Any ideas

MBP 2.33, Mac OS X (10.4.8), 2 of the above and 1 x iMAC

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

In Mail, open Window > Connection Doctor. What does it say?

Could it be that Mail or this particular account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?

Open Window > Activity Viewer and tell Mail to check for mail on this account. What do you see there?

This is reported by Mail or by Entourage? It doesn’t look like an error message that Mail would report...

Hi David

As I mentioned in my erroneous post: This is happening with 3 Mac's, all of which worked fine prior to this problem. I can send OK but cannot receive to "me"@mac.com or "wife"@mac.com.

I've spoken to my ISP, no problems at their end, I turned off Firewalls in my Router/Modem, I deleted the account and re-setup with a Verify which says all is OK

Followed your suggestions: Connection Doctor says:-

POP Account Connection succeded
.MAC Account ....Could not connect etc. Long story about what to check.
smtp. (my local ISP) Connection succeded
smtp.mac.com....Connection succeded

Mailbox =Online

Activity viewer=
Syncronising with server (Barber pole and Red dot)
Fetching new mail (Barber pole and Red dot)

Final result....No Mail

Entourage basically says the same, it knows theres mail there but it cant or wont give me it.................

Well, don’t know whether Entourage knows there’s mail, but according to Mail’s Connection Doctor, Mail cannot even connect to the incoming mail server...

Does the configuration used to connect to Internet appear at the top of the list in System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations or not?

Was Entourage able to retrieve mail from your .Mac account before the problem started to happen in Mail?

You may want to report the problem to .Mac email support in case something went awry at their end.

"Does the configuration used to connect to Internet appear at the top of the list in System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations or not?"

Yes, Ethernet on my desktop MAC and Airport on my Laptop(s)

I usually get mail with Entourage but it stopped working so I went to MAIL, same problem. It seems that I can connect with the server but it refuses to send the mail to either program.

I just wiped all accounts and re-did them. POP OK, MAC same problem. I'm now removing my hair, strand by strand.

Not sure what you mean. Has your .Mac account ever worked in Mail? Or are you just saying that the problem started to happen in both applications and all computers at the same time?

If the latter, which is what I initially understood, that would indicate a problem with the network or at the server, so don’t expect anything you do locally on your Mac to make a difference...

Hi David

Yes, the iMac originally worked with Mail, (still have emails there from last year). I then moved to Entourage and had no problems until the other day. My only changes have been a new Modem/Router which seems to be fine. (All other packages work)

I paid a visit to a friend today who apparently had the exact same problem. Turns out it was the local Telekom Co' so they are next in the firing line. We hd a bad storm a few weeks back, hence the new Router, wondering if something at their end got a bit fried ???

Also mailed .Mac and manuf of the Router, now we wait.
