iOS 12 automatically saves iMessage photos to your camera roll

So is there anyway to disable this feature? Why does Apple force feed us certain little tweaks they think we all like. So, if Im at the grocery store and i take a picture of a box of cereal send it on messages, it automatically saves to my camera roll. I have enough pictures as it is already 😒. I think apple just wants us to get the 512gb iphones.
