iPhone 8 update to iOS 12, CarPlay Apps feature not there

I have an iOS 12 updated iPhone 8, and I have a VW that is CarPlay compatible. After the update, the new feature showing non-apple Apps does not appear. Only the basic apps display, and the screen does not slide to the right to display additional. My wife has updated her iPhone 8 Plus to iOS 12 as well, and it displays fine for her with the additional apps. I have numerous apps that displayed for her. And, I have updated all apps to be current. Any suggestions on how to get the new feature to work is appreciated.

Few questions...

• Do you actually have compatible non-Apple apps installed on your iPhone 8. For example, do you have Google Maps or Spotify installed?
• If you go to Settings > General > CarPlay > Your Car are the apps you are expecting to see listed there or are they "uninstalled" and simply need to be added back in?
• Do you have restrictions enabled on your iPhone that prevent CarPlay from working as expected?
