Same problem we just had on one of our Series 4 Apple Watches. It just died on her shortly after being off the charger. It would only charge up to 53%, then die within 30 minutes. Sent to Apple, they sent it back saying no issues found, and it was dead on arrival an would never turn on no matter what we tried. This time they sent another replacement (instead of us sending ours in), and it just powered up after 15 minute of charge.

I finally figured out the problem with my watch: it was the xfinity WiFi app, which interfered every time I left my home and my own WiFi network! I’d had to install the xfinity app temporarily due to having to set up a new MacBook after my old one died, and I’d also bought a new WiFi router, but needed a temporary internet access while getting my new system set up. Anyhow, once I deleted the xfinity app, all the problems disappeared. No more issues at all, either while in my home network or about town. I’ve talked to a couple of other people in my extended family since then who also had the same problem, and in every case it came down to the xfinity WiFi app. This happened even though I did not have my phone set to ask to join other networks! Hope this helps you.

This just happened to me this afternoon. While driving this afternoon my Watch 4 suddenly started buzzing. I had a quick glance and saw a signal on the screen that looked like the WiFi signal in bright red. When I was finally able to pull over and take a good look the watch was completely off. The battery was fully charged when I left my home an hour before! I put it on the charger upon arriving home again and it did not light up to show it was charging. An hour later it still had not lit up. After following the helpful instructions above, it finally turned on, and the battery symbol showed that there was about an 80% charge. So I’m wondering why it turned off in the first place? In nearly 3 years with my Watch 2 (which I donated to my son), I never encountered a problem like this. I’m wondering now if this is a defect in the Series 4, and am thinking of taking it in for a checkup. Annoying!
