Continuity Camera not working.

I have attempted to use the continuity camera after updating both MacBook Pro and iPhone X to the latest operating systems. When I try to use it the iPhone icon is greyed out. both are on same wifi and bluetooth is connected.

Hey there, friends!

Found a fix that worked for me...

For those of you who are tech-savvy, I just signed out of iCloud and then back into it (on my Mac). This is a slightly arduous process because it requires you to download your iCloud information to your Mac... It took a total of about 15 minutes, but now everything is working just fine (as it relates to Continuity Camera)!

- Go to System preferences

- Select iCloud (3rd row down, first one on the left)

-Select "Sign Out"

-I would recommend selecting "Keep a Copy"

-It will download a copy of your iCloud content not stored on your Mac.

-After the process has finished and it has signed you out (it may prompt you for a few more things in the process), RESTART your Mac. Just a normal restart is fine.

-Once your Mac starts back up again, sign back into iCloud through System Preferences -> iCloud -> Sign in

All should work after that!

I was able to get Continuity Camera working after troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity.

Initially, I had the issue where my iPhone 6+ (iOS 12) was not seen by my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014 on macOS Mojave v10.14.1) for Continuity Camera.

First, I logged out of iCloud on both, rebooted both devices, logged back in. That did not "fix" right away, but may have helped in the long run...doubt it though.

While BT was enabled on both, ultimately it seems to have come down to reboots and being on the same Wi-Fi (for some reason, my iPhone wasn't joined to the correct band/SSID in my home (I have 3 networks), even though it displayed the same SSIDs.

The fix: I had to forget Wi-Fi and reapply and then it worked just fine.

Overall, I feel like forcing log off of iCloud account was a healthy exercise, rebooting helped, and ultimately, forgetting and resetting my Wi-Fi connections helped to resolve my issue.

YMMV.

So basically I almost tried everything, I rebooted both iphone. and Mac several times, made sure both are are connected to the same wifi, both have bluetooth on, and of course Mojave and IOS12 installed on each respective device

I took it one step further by signing out from iCloud on all my apple devices and logged back in and still didn't work

I reseted iPhone network settings but still no luck

you know what made it finally work? a hard reboot for the iPhone, thats it! a simple solution and now I'm enjoying this amazing feature

Although I thank everyone that has taken the time to try to resolve our issue with the continuity camera not working, it still ***** that EVERYONE wrote different ways to fix the problem EXCEPT for the correct way. Folks, all you have to do is connect your iPhone to your laptops Bluetooth and WALA you will are good to go. This is the fix for EVERYONE. Most of us, including myself, do NOT typically connect our phones via Bluetooth, or at least I never have, and therefore, that is why everyone else just assumed by saying "Make sure your Bluetooth is on" meant that with our Bluetooth being on our phones would connect automatically to Bluetooth.

Hopefully, everyone reads this message and fixes the issue right away because I spent 2-3 hours trying to everyone's "fix" method UNTIL I finally understood that your iPhone needs to be connected via Bluetooth to your laptop! Enjoy!

Hello, Frank,

I had this problem as well, however, I figured out how to fix it.

First, make sure:

-Your apple mac or laptop is in Mojave

-Your iPhone is completely up to date. (Some older versions of iPhone won't have the option to update to ios 12)

Steps to Fix:

go to System Preferences

Bluetooth settings

turn on Bluetooth

then go back into sharing settings

turn on photo sharing

That should fix it!

Hope this helps... Good luck!

If pairing your phone to your MacBook, and making sure Bluetooth is on both devices and you can see they are paired, but still your continuity camera isn’t working ... then send a reply with what devices you’re using bcz that’s super odd. Especially if you have signed out and signed into to the same iCloud wccount on both devices, and have made sure they’re both connected to the same internet network and that network is working.

iPhone 7 with iOS12 and iMac with macOS 10.14 Mojave.

I have the same problem. The Continuity Camera works with the USB cable plugged between the iPhone and the iMac but will not work otherwise. All other Continuity functions appear to work normally.

Attempting to use the Continuity Camera without the USB cable connected returns a Time Out error message:
