Apple Photo books pdf to jpeg/png - quality?

I always used to create a pdf after having finished a photo book. If I use Acrobat pro and convert the extracted pdf

pages to jpegs or pngs (done with Mac OS Sierra) - I am concerned about the quality.

Now, with Mac OS Mojave I could import these images into one of the new printing extension software as Mimeo or Ifolor (full page layouts) and have the book printed. The question is whether the quality of the conversion from pdf to jpeg or png is good enough?

The software of the new photo book print providers either does not generate a pdf file as Apple did under Sierra and also don't accept pdf imports, so I have to take this rather complicated detour via creating a pdf under Sierra and convert all to jpegs and using these jpegs in Mojave.

Whether Presto photos is an alternative for European users, I have to find out.

Hi reginaldix,

1. At PrestoPhoto, we can certainly print the PDFs exported from the Mojave 'Export PDF" option without modification. Simply upload them to our site. We also support European customers (we charge native Euros) and have international shipping options.

2. You are correct that none of the extensions offer PDF support currently to our knowledge. This is a major problem proprietary book software that you cannot control you output. We've decided to migrate projects to Apple Pages which gives you more flexibility and you can export to PDF. We suggest you check out our separate PrestoPhoto mac app available in the App store under "PrestoPhoto Templates". Our home page has link to our App.

3. If you do choose to go through the process of saving your PDF as jpgs through Adobe Acrobat be sure to save them as 350dpi and maximum quality. See screenshot:

Hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions!

For what it's worth the following are the resolution setting that iPhoto 9.6.1 uses for images associated with its library:

300 dip is the maximum resolution used by iPhoto. If you look in the aperture preference file you should be able to see what dpi values it uses for these various items. Since iPhoto and Aperture can use the same library I wouldn't be surprised if the values were the same.

You're very welcome!

Since it is such as small difference, you're likely right about it not being really visible when printed. And I totally agree, Aperture was (and still is a great tool!)

Not sure if you've seen this post from Daivd Strait Any new issues using Aperture with Mojave compared to High Sierra? , but it goes over how Aperture is currently working in Mojave. I have it on my computer that I just upgraded to Mojave and haven't noticed any crazy issues, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for sure!

It is always a good idea to have a backup plan though, so good thinking there!

Have a wonderful rest of your week (:

Thank you, PrestoMeghan!

I also made some tests: It turned out (determined with Acrobat Pro - Print Production - Output Preview) that Aperture makes a pdf with approx. 3849x2974 pix (i.e. 11 MB) and Photos a pdf with 3337x2587 pix (i.e. 8,6 MB).

Probably this difference will not really show up in the final book produced.

Yes, we were much better of with Aperture - hopefully it will still work sufficiently under Mojave. But I am going to

keep a fully functioning High Sierra on a separate disk - one never knows!
