ipad pro smart keyboard replacement
my keyboard is just over a year old, I don't have the serial number as its unreadable, and I don't have the box - any idea what can be done? I understand there is a replacement scheme?

So the latest is... I spoke to the Apple people on chat and they managed to run diagnostics on the keyboard remotely to get the serial number. The keyboard connected intermittently but long enough to get the serial number, thank goodness.
They were then able to offer me a replacement, which came the next day. I had to pay a holding 'deposit' to ensure I sent my faulty one back. I got an email yesterday to say they'd received it so a very satisfactory service in all fairness.
It seems as long as you can get hold of the serial number you're ok and they will honour the extended warranty as most keyboards are faulty. As people have pointed out, you won't get that from the suede/material on the keyboard itself, you will need the box it came in, or to be able to connect it, even briefly to get the number that way.
Hope this helps someone else, good luck!
I just kept wiping the connectors, restarting the iPad, playing around with the Alt tab buttons to cycle through the open apps. This seemed to get it to work on and off, then I just seemed to time it right with the call to Apple and they were able to diagnose and get the SN. Good luck!
Yes, I sent a copy of this to Apple support - the receipt has no serial number per se. It has a bar code on top and product code per ‘Compu b’ - I.e. Ireland’s recognized/official reseller.
they were happy to process my issue thru the usual repair & replacement channel had I been able to provide a correct serial number - hence I can assume they were honouring the extended warranty in Ireland.
if you get the “support” I got your only Avenue is to buy a new one - they used the illegible serial number to weasel out of the solutions offered to others.
Hi mate, yes hold down Command and press Tab. Keep Command pressed and repeatedly hit the tab button. This seemed to bring my keyboard back to life and connect it for a short while.
Glad for you harky3 - any suggestions how I might get mine to reconnect?
- it used to do so intermittently at first but nothing at all for some time
- somebody somewhere mentioned magnets but I can no longer find the source of that advice
Sorry H3, ‘option’ button is between control & command on my version - is this the ‘alt’ you refer to?
Your competency likely exceeds mine..... so are you saying to use simultaneous combination buttons?
this is my second iPad Pro 12.9 keyboard to go wrong. My serial number did rub off. The Apple repair have had it now for twenty days. Still have not got a reply.
This is is a really terrible product from Apple. Needless to say they want nothing to do withTHEIR FAULTY IPAD PRO KEYBOARD
I READ ON LINE THAT THEY ARE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THE KEYBOARD TO THREE YEARS.
NOT SURE IF THIS IS “FAKE NEWS”
wont be buying any Apple products again. Others out there better
Did you have your Apple receipt for the smart keyboard cover?
That would have helped.
If the iPad is telling me ”this device is not supported etc” surely it must be recognizing its presence in some way?
Could you explain whta you mean by cycling throw alt tab etc buttons specifically?
Are you referring to the “option” button with compound measures?
hi
Do you have a technical question about an iPad you own?
My keyboard from 2016 is not working either. I think it has a short inside as the sides are delaminating. What can be done with this?
Serial Number DLXRMWG5H6Q8
Same problem. Stopped working 14 months old. Cost me £169 for what is not fit for purpose. Disgraceful.
