Continuity Camera fail - "Device timed out"

Hello, I think I figured this out. Had the same problem of "device timed out".

To fix it I went to bluetooth on my iphone and manualy connected to my mac (as it was not listed there as my device before, so I figured that my iphone didn't recognise mac through bluetooth as they were not used together before) and tried the feature then. Next I disconnected my devices and now they find each other with no problem and don't need to be constantly connected (also my mac now appears in "my devices" list in bluetooth menu).

Hope this helps to someone as I searched alot for solution, but only this worked for me and I had to figure it out myself. 🙂

Good work! That may have been a part of my solution as I had to do that as well. But in my case, it was not sufficient. I also had to go on and sort things out in what seems to have been a surreptitious (or at least hidden) relationship between my digital radio and Mac.

You're a Rock Star scullymulder!! After hours of troubleshooting everything, your solution of logging out of iCloud worked!! I only had to log out of iCloud from my iPhone XS Max and then sign back in and that did the trick. Thank you!

Mojave "Take Photo" was never a problem with my iPhone 8+, but struggled with timeout issues on iPhone 6...Came across this thread when searching for a fix..

Following steps made it work on iPhone 6

1. Apple ID - Sign out of IPhone

2. Sign in

3. Reboot the phone

4. try now ;-)

I worked !!!!, although it take 1-2 seconds for the camera app to open on phone (in 8+, it was instant)

This solution worked for me to connect my iMac and iPhone. My iMac had been connected only via ethernet. So I had to turn on the wi-fi on the iMac and connect to the iPhone's wi-fi network. Thanks for providing this solution.

Tried rebooting and also restarted several times as well but all it says is device timeout. It works on the Ipad but does not work in iPhone 7 Plus.

Apple Engineers are looking into this issue.

Agreed tried all suggestions and it just isn't working!

Both have bluetooth on also on same wifi!

Previous If it doesn't work, try a simple reboot.

Same here. It works on my iPad Pro, but not on my iPhone 8.

It is clear that for many people this works with their iPad, but not iPhone. All settings are the same for me. What could be different about my iPhone that I'm not seeing?

Hmmm not sure why but I can't get it to work with my iPad either. I have checked that both are on same network and bluetooth on etc
