Clean install Mojave

I read alot about clean install of Mojave and getting rid of old files. But if I erase my HD and install a clean Mojave and thereafter use Time Machine to copy back all the files, don't I get most of the junk back?

Unless you're having some serious problems with your current system I see no need for an erase and clean install.

You could run Etrecheck and post the rtestults in a new topic where some of us can review what you have installed and suggest the removal of what's unnecessary, broken, or dangerous before you install Mojave. It also wouldn't hurt to run the demo version of Malwarebytes to make sure you're upgrading a clean system.

I just did a clean install on my late 2013 27" iMac. What I did was

was back up "data" in my home directory. Although that was just

really an additional precaution as the majority of the data was backed

up by a variety of methods (live by the concept, "one backup is no backup"

since the backups can fail or get corrupted). Also I had a clone

of my installation as another precaution.

I had created a USB installer and wiped the drive, installed Mojave, installed

apps that I use most frequently and then began copying my data.

So, did I have to do it? Probably not . But I had been doing in place upgrades

since Mavericks and the iMac, when new, had stuff migrated from a Mac that

had in place upgrades from Leopard.

So, I just decided that it was time for a fresh start. Even though I do try to keep

things "tidy", I am sure over the years I have been collecting a lot of flotsam and

jetsam and just wanted to eliminate any "ticking time bombs".

Thanks for your reply. My main concern is Lightroom and 500GB of photos. I don't know if I will be able to reinstall it as Adobe has changed so much the past years. I have the original disc and updates and license number but if they still work, I don't know. I hold several backups including 2 Superduper and a clone of my HDD as external. I am not afraid of loosing data but don't wanne spend several hours with reinstalling apps and data and then find out it has not made a difference. I probably do an upgrade now. See how it goes and can always reinstall clean in case I get into problems.
