MacBook Pro doesn't sleep when lid closed after updating to Mojave 10.14

Hi everybody,

I have MacBook Pro 13 (early 2015) and I have updated today to Mojave 10.14. After doing this, the Macbook is not going sleep anymore when I close the lid. I have checked the Energy settings in the Preferences and it seems fine. I have uninstalled Amphetamine, just to be sure that it is not caused by some incompatibility with the new macos. I have also deactivated various apps running in the background and I have reseted SMC and NVPRAM but nothing has helped.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Jan

As a temporary fix i switched back to High Sierra. Untill the apple geniuses fix this OSX issue i will keep using sierra.

i don't think is our "job" (as end users) to fix their os issues, or other hardware/software issues. we pay a quite big amount of money on apple product and we expect to be the best quality (at last me i'm expecting this).

Thx for sending the info. That is where I looked and nope, it isn't there. Below is all I have in that folder. Interestingly and maybe not related but I tried to start up this morning in Safe mode but my MacBook never actually came out of startup for me to log on. The startup progress bar seemed to complete and then just stopped (had to do a hard reboot at that point). I was going to see if booting in Safe mode (which disables 3rd party extensions) would allow the MacBook to sleep and then go on the hunt for the culprit on my computer (since I don't have DGVirtualDisplay.kext)

Same problem here - MacBook pro 13" 2015...

After the update to Mojave :

  • nothing happens on lid close

no sleep, no lock, display doesn't turn off when lid is closed and I connect an external monitor

  • laptop doesn't get locked when it sleeps
  • constant external monitor issues, currently I can't get any external monitor to display an image

monitor is recognized in settings and that's it nothing else happens

I tried every available suggestion of clearing NVRAM, resetting SMC, restarting to Safe boot, reinstalling Mojave, clearing disk space...

Nothing helps.

Please apple fix this finally.

Thank You

Thanks for the reply. Nothing is connected and wake from sleep has been hopefully disabled (the macbook does not go sleep at all).

You are close to capacity on your 425 GB partition. You should have at least 15% free.

org.pqrs.karabiner.karabiner_grabber.plist

looks like malware, and anyconnect should only be used if you are allowing other people remote access to your machine.

Filepane helper sounds like GUI modification tool. I would not use such tools.

And I would clear all startup items from your system preferences account to ensure the problem is not happening with them. Install them back one at a time once you verify each one is not to blame. Isolate the problem.

Sep 25, 2018 1:07 PM in response to a brody

Thanks for your reply.
- I have 50GB+ free according to "About Mac", I guess that it is fine, isn`t it?
- Karabiner is no malware (check https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/ ).
- Anyconnect is the software we use to access our office Network from home (recommended by our IT department).
- Filepane is available from Apple Store and deleting it does not solve anything (but well, I have deleted it for now while trying to isolate the issue)

But I will take your advice and remove all startup items and uninstall all unnecessary apps in order to isolate the problem (if it is caused by an app... )

Sep 27, 2018 3:09 AM in response to Ciceronianus

Hello! I have the same issue with my MacBook Pro Retina (A1502).

After updating to Mojave, when is plugged in and I close the lid, for two seconds stays closed, after that opens itself and starts playing music (previously I listened music on Yt). If is on battery, when I close the lid MacBook goes to sleep.

Hope this bug will be fixed with next update...

Sep 30, 2018 5:39 AM in response to Ciceronianus

Well, I though I have solved my problem by uninstalling AnyConnect but I was wrong 😟. What I do observe now is:

- Macbook sometimes goes sleep and sometimes not when the lid is closed. It is quite inconsistent.

- If it does not go sleep, I can log out and it goes sleep without issues from login screen.

So there is a workaround for me (i.e. to log out) but I hope Apple will fix the issue...

Oct 4, 2018 11:17 PM in response to Ciceronianus

I'm facing the same issue. Already did a complete reinstall. Older posts suggest to delete Google Account from machine. It seemed to work yesterday, but when I rebooted today it happened again that my Macbook Air (2013) would not go into sleep mode when I closed the lid.

However, I logged out and in again and sleep seems to work. Maybe you can use this as a workaround until we get a fix.

MacBook Pro doesn't sleep when lid closed after updating to Mojave 10.14
