Blank screen after login since Mojave install

TL;DR - Blank screen after login since updating to Mojave. Will only boot into safe mode, but its slow with graphical issues, with several apps unusable. Please help!

Hi all,

After downloading the Mojave update from the App Store on my MacBook Pro 2018 (with touch ID button), I left it to do its thing as it said it was take approx 30 mins. When I returned 45 mins later, the MacBook screen was active (there was backlight), but the display was empty including no cursor. I restarted using the power button, which brought up my 3 user login accounts, and a new Mojave interface and background. However, when I enter the password of my account, it accepts it, a progress bar appears, then I get the same empty, blank screen I saw earlier. There is no way forward. No activity, no action, no buttons do anything at all.

I rebooted into Recovery mode to find that the Macintosh HD (APFS Encrypted) is greyed out and Not Mounted, with the OS X Base System mounted, so cannot perform any first aid.

I also tried to Reinstall OS, which required me to unlock, successfully. It then re-installed. However after about 30 mins, the screen changed to an Apple logo with progress bar (no text), reached just past 3/4 and hangs there. I left it for at least 45 mins, but had to press the power button to turn it off. Powering on and the problem loops all over again as above.

However, interestingly, I tried to boot into safe mode, and I can successfully login. But there are problems. The OS is clunky and slow with lots of graphical issues everywhere, which renders some apps unusable. Unfortunately it still won't work outside of safe mode.

Can anyone help please? I'm struggling to complete my work without the MacBook working...

Still no resolution here. Just wanted to also note that if it wasn't for the graphical issues in safe mode, I may have been able to continue my work. To describe, several apps have artefacts appear with large portions of the app missing or flashing, with rectangular solid shapes everywhere. Another app is zoomed in too much.

As well as this, the whole OS is lagging. If I drag a Finder window around the screen for example, it's clunky and sort of leaves a glitchy ghosting trail.

Tabs in Safari also have strange flashing/animated artefacts appear on hover.

I have the same issue. I have contacted Apple support and after 5 hours, talking to different advisors, trying different modes, creating test user accounts, ...etc, I was asked to generate and send some log files from my system. I haven't heard back from Apple support. My machine is basically unusable. I don't want to reinstall because I will lose some files and from your experience it looks like this won't solve the problem anyway, so Apple really has to fix this bug quickly.

Hi there,

after using Mojave for one week now, I am experience similar problems. After login I am only getting a black screen, but everything else is fully functional in the background (can use Siri e.g.). Some minutes later (10 or so) the screen appears as if nothing happened. I already did a reinstall of the OS with no effect. Before experiencing that the screen is displayed after a few minutes I talked to Apple support and they advised a repair (macBook Pro 2016). But now I am sure that it may be more of a software problem ...

I do not know if this information helps or if anyone is observing similar problems ...???

Cheers

Harald
