Ping my iPhone is greyed out (not working) on my Apple Watch since updating to an iPhone X’s.

Since getting my new iPhone, or possibly since updating to WatchOS 5, the “ping my iPhone” icon in the watch’s control center is greyed out and not working.

Hello Kevin McCormick,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your iPhone and Apple Watch. I am happy to recommend some troubleshooting steps for this.

First, I recommend restarting both the Apple Watch, and the iPhone.

How to restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue remains, I recommend unpairing the devices, and re-pairing them. If your Apple Watch isn't connected or paired with your iPhone - Apple Support

Unpair your devices, then pair them again

If your Apple Watch still can't connect, unpair your devices, then pair them again:

  1. On your Apple Watch, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
  2. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, tap the My Watch tab, then tap your watch at the top of the screen. Tap User uploaded file next to the watch that you want to unpair, then tap Unpair Apple Watch. Tap again to confirm.
  3. Pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

I restarted both the watch and iPhone. That didn’t help. Then I decided to see if this feature wasn’t working on my other apple watches. It’s not working on either watch. So that’s three watches that have that “ping” icon greyed out.

So it wouldn’t be a pairing problem. This started after the updates: a new iPhone Xs (IOS 12) and upgrading to WatchOS 5. I was hoping someone could direct me to a setting on my phone that I may have overlooked.
