iOS Update Apple ID Settings Wrong Email

I changed the email I use for my Apple ID about a month ago. Everything was good until yesterday when I went to change my Apple ID password on my Mac. I changed the password, and then my devices said to update Apple ID settings as usual. On both my Macs this worked fine, but on my iPhone X, it shows my old email. So when I attempt to plug my current password in, it says this Apple ID doesn't exist for that email. I have no way of changing the email that pops up when I click on update Apple ID settings.

I have already signed out of my iCloud and back in, and that didn't fix anything.

Any thoughts?

Don't know if anyone still has this issue, but what worked for me on iPhone 7:

  1. Sign out of Apple ID/iCloud through Settings
  2. While signed out, do a hard reset (On iPhone 7 it's holding Lock and Volume Down button at the same time)
  3. Sign back in

When I went back to update settings, the correct email (rather than my old one) was populated in auto-fill. Hope this helps!

Hi Kidfitz,

You probably fixed this by now, but for the benefit of others, I had the same problem. I too had a previous email address (Gmail) as my Apple ID, then changed it later to something else (not a Gmail, but Gmail has nothing to do with this Apple problem). I constantly had that same message to Update Apple ID Settings on my iPhone (8 plus) and, when I selected to do so, it brought up that old email address which the password didn't fit and, after entering the correct password, the iPhone said "that Apple ID does not exist".

What I did was this:

Went to Manage Apple ID and created a new Apple ID as a brand new person, but with that old email address. Went through the verification process (i.e. a code sent to that email, inputting that code onto the site, etc.). I then went on my iPhone (in your case, the Mac), selected to Update Apple ID Settings, that particular email Apple ID popped up, I entered the new password, and the whole notification and badge went away. It looks like there is some sort of legacy code that does not get transferred when you switch your Apple ID from an old email address after following Apple's directions.

Good luck!

I click on Settings, and below my iCloud name and account it states "Update Apple ID Settings." I click that, and then it says "Some account services require you to sign in again." Below that, I click Continue. Then Apple ID Password pops up telling me to enter the password for the account, but it shows the wrong email. Thus, not letting me sign in.

Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device
