iPad send & receive phone number not showing up as an option

Why can’t I add the phone number associated with my ipad in send and receive iMessage

Your iPad is not a cellular telephone. The telephone number associated with the iPad is nearly useless. It is only used as a mechanism for you and your cellular carrier who supports your iPad to itemize billing information for you.


iMessage uses your iPhone cellular telephone number (which is an actual phone number), and/or your Apple ID as the only methods to identify you.
