iPhone XS not charging upon initial plug in?

My new iphone XS will randomly not charge when I plug it in. It just sits there until I unplug and replug it, or sometimes touching the screen to wake it up will make it charge. Think itll be fixed in an update or should I exchange my phone?

I’ve just noticed on my iPad Mini if I let the battery go right down to 10%, when I plug in to charge from the iMac I hear a beeping sound, and when looking in iTunes the device is not shown mounted (and yes, I’ve turned off USB Accessories). If I then open the home screen, suddenly the device mounts, beeping stops and charge indicator shows.

I usually don’t let the iPad go that low, about 30 or 40%, and when connecting have never observed that sort of behaviour before.

Does your issue occur when plugging in at 80% as well as say 10%, or is it like I believe mine is now, only occurring at 10% or below, it’s not an answer but you might not be alone with this one.

That appears to be a common response when talking about an issue with tech support level 1 when they have no idea on how to fix, you have to insist on getting escalated up to level 2. These techs obviously have far more experience, but I believe they also have the authority to accept that something isn't quite right, even when they still aren't sure what that something might in fact be.

It happened to my iPad last night, think I’ve heard the beeps before but not connected it with low battery level before, while my iPad was beeping I opened the home screen and saw the charge symbol appear at the same time the beeping stopped and instantly thought of your post.

They might be entirely different issues of course, but the fact the iPad wasn’t charging on connection, and didn’t until it was unlocked had me thinking, the point is I’ve not altered any settings, and if I don’t let the battery run down as much it doesn’t happen.

I don’t know what’s going on, may be the “USB Accessories” switch is playing up, it might be how things are meant to work, I’ll just monitor and see how things go.
