Black screen at login with mac os mojave

We had problem with login after upgrade to majove. Had to power off mac and boot safe mode (holding shift key down until you see apple).

Then once logged in we tried to reboot (did not work, hung after login credentials)

We booted safe mode again and created a new user account for the person with admin rights.

Then we restarted again normally and login to the new user

I have the same problem with my Macbook Air 2017. If I knew this would be an issue I shouldn't have upgraded 😟 I had to press and hold the power button until the screen appears and then a dialog box asking to restart appears too. I hope Apple addresses this issue.

I have this problem also. For me it does not happen at login, but rather when a "graphics event" occurs. For example : unplugging an external monitor, or starting up a graphics related program for photo editing or drawing. Sometimes it will recover if I can quit the application (blindly, screen is black). Sometimes I have to restart. Annoying.

Wow... Apple has really fallen. I have this same issue yet I fixed it. You know what the problem was? I changed my f'ing iCloud / iTunes password. Yesterday I changed my password, I went through all the apps and software and updated it in everything. This morning I boot up and I have this black screen after login problem. The root cause? MY F'ING PASSWORD FOR ITUNES / ICLOUD needed to be re-entered into my account information. Even though I entered it right after I changed it. I discovered this by sheer dumb luck. I had trouble getting it to work in safe mode but I finally got that working, I was going to go create another admin user but my user screen was already up in the settings control panel and it showed that it needed my password AGAIN. So I put the password in again, in safe mode, rebooted and the problem went away. THIS IS SOME SLOPPY *** MICROSOFT LEVEL $HIT APPLE. You have been steadily going downhill in the quality of the software you are putting out. I can't believe the bugs iOS has just with the news app with my XS Max. You're getting SLOPPY APPLE and the sloppier you get, the worse value you provide to the user. People buy APPLE BECAUSE IT JUST WORKS. Get your $hit together.

I couldn't agree more with this. Updated yesterday to Mojave having put it off for months because I know what Apple has become and I have BOTH of these problems. After 20+ years I might as well buy a PC. :(

One of my coworkers ran into same issue. He created new user, booted the mac normally and logged into new user, then logged out of new user into old user.

Apple simply released a software that is not ready and fully tested yet. Letting professionnals lose time and money. Sorry Apple but tour products and aoftware are not what it use to be. Simple...
