iTunes in iOS12 not compatible with High Sierra

I just updated to iOS12 on my iPad and now iTunes is NOT compatible with my MacBook Pro running High Sierra! What's up with that? I thought the whole idea of iTunes was to be able to connect ALL my devices and listen to music on any of them. Is Apple becoming Microsoft? I can get it if it was not compatible with Mac OS's like El Capitan or earlier, but High Sierra was just the last operating system.Any workarounds????

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.

Or you can update to Mojave if your system supports it.

Thanks! Turns out I didn't need to reinstall iTunes. I just needed to trust Apple when it said

"Software update is required to connect to your iOS device"

I was afraid this referred to installing Mohave, but I clicked on "install" anyway and apparently it just needed to install a patch. Yippee!

I did follow the instructions on various Apple support pages and first checked in the System Report that the computer was seeing my iphone as a USB device (it was). I also turned off my anti-virus software before installing the patch.

I am now able to sync and backup my iphone and ipad running ios 12.0.1 with my old Mac Mini running Sierra.

So relieved I don't need to run out and buy a new computer . . . just yet. 🙂
