iPhone XS Max Landscape Home-screen Mode

So let me get his straight. I bought this super powerful iPhone XS Max for:

$1,824.80 ($1,449 iphone + $399 Apple Care + $76 tax)

and it won't go into landscape mode on the home screen? My iPhone 6 plus did this. I used it like a mini laptop with a keyboard. Now I always have to lift it back and forth or deal with a sideways homescreen... its ridiculous.

Now I know that this is a feature and it wont work with face ID or I am holding it wrong or I am looking at it wrong or using it wrong or some other wrong thing i am doing that makes it my fault... So, here is my question.

Should I return this thing pronto or hope that they will update this ridiculous 'feature'?

I'm so disappointed its making me want to return it for a darn Galaxy Note 9. =(

I don't say this lightly, I have owned nearly everything Apple has ever produced since the 90s and usually multiple versions or multiple quantities of those things. For them to make such an advanced phone at such a premium price and overlook something so simple is depressing.

Cheers - Omer

PS: 1 bar loss on my cell network too and I am not looking forward to a 'we will make you feel better' visual fix.

=Seem's like a lot of Plus users are upset with the XS Max UX experience as it's a step backwards. Being able to use the larger iPhones like a little iPad is one of the only real benefits of having the larger display. Loosing landscape home screen ***** bad and I don't think it has anything to do with Face ID as you couldn't actually unlock a Plus model in landscape either, it wasn't until the device was unlocked that it could actually be rotated and used solely in landscape, so Face ID not working in landscape is not the issue. I think it's more so the notch and what to do about the dock when rotating the device. It also ***** how Mail/Files and others now loose the static split view in favor of that annoying side menu that constantly slides in and out. Really hope in a future update Apple reverts to Landscape home screen and all the split view apps how they work on the Plus models. Otherwise there is no point to getting the large model any more.

I agree with your assessment. Further, I am thinking that Apple does not want its users from getting any sort of iPad experience from the iPhone anymore because that may cannibalize iPad sales. With the millions of units they sell these days this small decision would probably mean a lot of money. Even if the Face ID or the notch are barriers they need to overcome I don't think that it would be particularly difficult for them. Regardless, in the end I just ended up returning the XS Max because landscape mode is too important for me. I wanted to use a Logitech keys-to-go iOS keyboard with it in landscape mode and I could not.
