My iMac 27 2012 with 3TB Fusion drive had poor performance

My iMac 27 2012 was having poor performance problem. It was having random freeze, sluggish performance and long boot up time. Sometime it won't be able to wake from sleep. Also beach balling frequently even when web surfing from page to page. I'm not sure if the fusion drive problem or macOS 10.13.6 as I notice this problem when updated to this version. Here's the EtreCheck report below. Would be grateful if any expert could give me some advise on this. Million thanks.

Good evening, Willsmak!

It's a pleasure to have you at the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're experiencing sluggish performance and sleep/wake issues on your Mac and it's my pleasure to help you troubleshoot this.

I'd like you to start up in safe mode first.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Once you've restarted after safe mode, the following article should help with sleep/wake issues.

If your Mac doesn't sleep or wake when expected

If you're still seeing these issues, test in a new user.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Please let us know that you're seeing better performance on your Mac or if you need further assistance

Best wishes.

Good day, Becky.

Thanks for your advice. However, the suggestion provided has been tried and it's not working at all. Booting the iMac in safe mode, made it even worse than in normal. Start up take around 5-8 mins to the login page. Restart with other user account was the same. Upon start up and logged in, click on Safari for web surfing take around 1-2mins for the windows prompt out and it's not ready to use yet. It takes around 2-3mins more to get it ready for use.

I had also tried to fully re-install the macOS with formatting the whole fusion drive but the problems continue appear. SMART check on the drive was said to be OK and I'm unable to find where the problem is. Wish that you could get me some advice in order to solve this problem. Thanks.

Best Regard,

Willsmak

Finally i located where the problem is. The 3TB HDD was the root cause. I had the Fusion drive linkage broken up and install the macOS on the SSD. It work fine and DriveDX notice the HDD was failing. Error code #187, 197, 198 found on the HDD drive. The HDD only got Power On Time:15,426hours & Power Cycle Count:7,406 at the moment. It's frustrated that seems the 3TB Fusion recall for replacement on this iMac 27 2012 didn't help.
