Camera not working with Mojave

For anyone still having this problem, reseting the System Management Controller (SMC) did it for me (google it, if you don't know how to do it for your device). Had the same issues as calmontoya on my MacBook Pro 2018 on macOS 10.14.2.

Ever since I updated my iMac to Mojave my built-in camera AND microphone have stopped working. No app recognizes them. I do have a third party camera with a mic and it recognizes that without any issues.

I have looked through the forums here and saw multiple people are having this issue. I thought the 10.14.1 update might fix it, but it did not. I've tried doing the terminal sudo command to reset the camera and that did nothing. I've restarted, cleared caches... nothing.

Even Siri will not recognize the mic. I know this has to be a software issues, because the both the camera AND the mic would not fail at the same time coincidentally after installing Mojave.

I've submitted a bug report to Apple, but really I shouldn't have to. Mojave should have never been released without more QC efforts.

@rhulle I already did that... for the apps that ASK for permission. It still didn't work.

The more troublesome issue still is that some apps do not ask for permission and there is no way to manually add them to the list. There should be +/- buttons that let you manually add whatever apps you want to the camera or microphone, but there aren't any buttons at all. But even so, even QuickTime or FaceTime will not recognize the camera or mic. I mean, the camera is called the FaceTime HD camera and FaceTime can't even use it in Mojave.

This fixed my issue where my iMac's built-in camera and a USB webcam were both not recognised after upgrading to Mojave.

They both worked when I logged into my iMac using the Guest account so I knew it wasn't hardware related.

Apparently, I could get it working by allowing access from "Security & Privacy" setting changes. You need to allow access for the apps you want to use. Give it a try.

Goto system preferences + security & privacy + privacy + camera, click the check box for allowing google chrome to access camera. This did it for me.

No, I haven't. I can't believe Apple hasn't fixed this yet. There are many people with this same issue.

I am facing problem with mic and camera. I tried "sudo killall VDCAssistant" however it didn't worked for me.

As Apple is not addressing that issue at all, I moved backed to High Sierra over the weekend and now everything is back to normal...all systems are working again..

@magnetic8301 - that does not work. And, it's not just Google Chrome. It's ALL apps. Even if I have the checkbox checked they do not recognize the camera OR mic.
