missing plug in

Am sending a message with Word attachment, using mail drop. A "missing plug in" message occurs before sending.

Your post is very confusing because you seem to be intermixing the use of two very different terms:

  • AirDrop, used to share information between two nearby devices.
  • Mail Drop, used to send large files via iCloud.

You seem to be discussing the Mail app, and AirDrop does not work with this app, so I'm guessing you mean Mail Drop all the time, and never mean AirDrop.

Mail Drop has size limits, etc. Read the limitations here.

If in fact your error messages do point to a plug-in missing, and are not caused by limits shown in the above article, then Safari would serve as the means to obtain the missing plug-in, and it doesn't matter whether Safari was the app causing the issue.

Thank you for the Safari plug in reference, except that my question Is in connection with mail on my Macbook air, not in Safari. In the past, to send large documents, I have used air drop and it works well. This week, though when trying to send a large document with air drop, (att.net email address) I got the message that there is a missing plug in (assuming associated with mail and mail drop) when I unchecked the mail drop option, a smaller attachment worked fine, no plug in message. So, I am assuming that the message regarding the missing plug in is directly related to air drop. I don't see any updates available to me re: Mac software. The missing plug in message did not have any links or associated info with it.
