Phone Numbers on Apple Watch Missing First Digit

Currently have an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) running WatchOS 5.01. Just purchased it approximately 10 days ago.

Why is it that the first digit of the phone numbers are unable to be read?

This isn't acceptable at all!

Ok, my non contact list is also a 3 line,

Full national number (01234 3456789) remember I’m UK and that is standard presentation

Location of call source/destination (Glasgow, Scotland)

Date / time

First line is bright white, lines 2/3 are grey.

I'm not sure what you are obscuring on the first line of your picture, I originally guessed contact name but now you say not in contact list... If it is area code I’m starting to think your font is too big, the whole number should fit on a single line, and I have 3 full entries on my screen but you only get just over 2. Try playing with (iPhone) Watch app, My Watch, Brightness and Text Size. For comparison, my size is one level above minimum, not bold.

I wouldn’t worry about buyer’s remorse unless you are thinking lustfully about Watch Series 4. If your watch is new you are still in the 90 day free support period, Apple Complimentary Support - Official Apple Support which means you have a fallback plan to Contact Apple Support if we can’t find the problem setting here.

That’s interesting. I have a Series 3 LTE on 5.0.1 but my recent calls list doesn’t show the number for callers with an entry in Contacts. I get a 3 line display:

Name

Number type (work/home/iPhone etc)

Time / date

Something must be different in settings.

Now a question, did your weird display always look like that, or did it start with v5.0.1? Whatever, if you didn’t already try it, go for a forced reboot. Press and hold both buttons until the Apple appears and the watch begins to reboot.

I don't get a number display for people in my contact list either. This problem only occurs with people who aren't in my contact list.

I honestly don't know if it has been like this due to the fact that I just purchased the watch (which had WatchOS 4 on it at the time), and I honestly didn't look at the phone list on the watch until I upgraded to WatchOS 5. However, it is doing the same in both WatchOS 5 and WatchOS 5.01.

I will try a force reboot; however, if this doesn't clear up afterwards, I am still in my buyer's remorse period, but not for long.

Thank you for your reply!

Thank you very much for solving my issue.

First, the reason I obscured the first line of the picture is because I did not want to reveal the United States area code, for privacy reasons.

I solved the issue by taking your advice and simply reducing the font size through the Watch app on my iPhone.

Your help is very much appreciated! 🙂
