Can OS X Server run on Mac mini?

I have an old Mac mini, the first to come with Intel CPU. Can OS X Server run on it for NAS using USB drives?

It is time to let that old Mac mini go.

If the “first to come with the Intel CPU” is a core solo mac mini, then it can run OS X 10.4.6 thru OS X 10.6.8, and nothing later. If it was the first core 2 duo, then it can run OS X 10.4.10 thru OS X 10.7.5. The first core solo machine maxes out at 2GB RAM, and the first core 2 duo maxes out at 4GB RAM.

You may still be able to purchase Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD ($20) from the Apple Online store, and update it to 10.6.8. I believe at that stage of OS X, the actual Snow Leopard Server disk was still quite expensive, even if Apple still offers it for retail sale.

OS X 10.7.5 is a $20 license key that allows you to download the operating system upgrade from the Apple Mac Store from OS X 10.6.8.
