I totally get the point of the "insurance" effect, and that is the reason why you cannot register for a car insurance in 12 months, whenever you want, or it will expire - it is a non-sense. I would even argue that the fraudulent approach is not to automatically apply the plan at purchase time, just like many other companies do. Is there any reason for that?
This seems to be meant to exploit the procrastination habit and the lack of knowledge of a lot of people.
If it is tied to the device, let's activate it when it is sold.
That said, how it works is clearly stated everywhere, so I'm on the wrong side, but as a customer of a 3k $ laptop (+ 300 bucks for the extra warranty), I don't feel good and supported with this approach, but just "cheated".
