audio not working after Mojave update on 2015 MB Air

I updated to Mojave and the internal speaker are not seen, nor is the internal microphone seen. I can hear audio with bluetooth headphones and on Airplay on the TV. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the OS. I have plugged headphones in and it does not see them either. I have done a PRAM and all other resets without any change. I have a late 2015 MacBook Air. Does anyone have a fix for this? I can hear the "chime" every time I reload the OS, but once it is loaded...nothing in the settings showing internal speakers or microphone.

I contacted Apple support on chat, and here is what worked for me.

go to this folder /Library/Preferences/Audio

and move these 2 files to trash

com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist

then shut down and do a PRAM reset

If you are scared to delete this, just rename before and after the dot, and you can always restore it if needed by going back to the original name.

I also have this problem. But I updated it on Wednesday 7/24/2019. Have they not fixed this issue yet? before I send it in for 10 days I am going to try all of whats on this page.

Delete the folder "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL".

I consider that there is a problem with the audio drivers when updating the system. Just backup them somewhere and remove all the drivers. It works for me.

You may have already found a solution for your problem but because I spend a lot of time diagnosing and fixing a similar problem on my own. computers, I thought I would offer some comments:

In Mojave, Apple has introduced protections so apps can't access the microphone and camera without your permission. (I suppose if I had read some documentation about changes in Mojave I would have avoided the problem to my microphone problems to begin with.) Here's what I needed to do to get Viber and Skype to work again:

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy and select Microphone. Any app that uses the microphone must have the checkbox selected.

Moreover, any app that needs to use the camera must have the app checked in the Camera pane.

I guess the word “microphone” is this instance, is synonymous with “line in”.
