How do I upgrade 15" Macbook Pro late 2011from X Yosemite 10.10.5 to X 10.11 El capitan

User uploaded fileI plugged my iPhone 7 to put some more music on it. Got a message that I need OS 10.11 in order for my phone to play iTunes. I went to the app store but it says there are no updates available. I have tried to get the El Capitan 10.11, but it only shows 12.11.6 and won't let me download it until I have the 10.11 version. How do I do that or is there something else I can do to get my phone to sync up to iTunes?

You log into the Mac App Store with an Apple ID previously used to download El Capitan, or skip it and get High Sierra instead.

Kappy: That list is for Mojave. It isn’t applicable to people who are trying to upgrade to El Capitan or High Sierra.
