So it’s 4am in the morning and my 2011 iMac makes a very loud beep and turns on by itself, I used it earlier in the day and all seemed fine.
Whilst starting up the screen was black with a white loading bar and apple logo. I waited for the bar to load and it shut down again after.
Can someone explain to me why this has occurred?
Look in System Preferences - Energy Saver - Schedule to see if somehow someone scheduled it to turn on at 4AM every day. If that does not do it, restart in Safe Mode per Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support and then restart normally and retest.
Also check Energy Settings in System Preference for the Start up after power failure. If it is checked on, check it off. If your home momentarily lost power or had a power flicker that could explain it.
Thank you, I will try the safe boot as it’s only me who uses it so it’s not been scheduled to come on and the beep sounded like a fire alarm so it’s definitely not that
