firmware error while updating to OS High sierra

Am currently operating on mac os sierra 10.12.6 (16G1611)

My system is 13' mid 2012 bought machine.

Am not able to update my system to OS High sierra. I get an update when my system restarts to update the software which says "an error occurred while verifying the firmware"

I tried skipping the High sierra os and tried updating it directly to os Mojave. Although the same error shows up.

Kindly guide me how to resolve this issue.

Hi Gagan-Sky007,

Thanks for getting back to us with the additional information. Is there any third-party RAM currently installed in this MacBook Pro? The reason why I ask is that this could be causing the installer not to pass the EFI check when upgrading. If this is the case, remove the third-party RAM and replace it with the original RAM (if possible) before attempting to download and install the upgrade again:

If you do not have third-party RAM installed, it's possible you'll need to create and use a bootable installer to upgrade following the steps in the previously provided resource.

I would suggest contacting Apple Support directly as well. You can reach them using this link:

Take care.

Hey i_rina, really appreciate your effort..

I tried getting a SMC firmware update and EFI security update 2015-002. Although my system says that both these updates require a lower ox version.

It really is frustrating for me to be stuck with os sierra when the world is enjoying mojave!! 😟

Hope you can direct me specifically towards what can be done from here..

Regards,

Sky

Hello Gagan-Sky007,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are encountering an error when attempting to upgrade your MacBook Pro to macOS High Sierra and macOS Mojave. I would be happy to help point you towards a resolution.

Let's start by confirming which firmware version your MacBook Pro is currently running, and if it needs to have an update manually installed:

About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers - Apple Support

If the firmware is up-to-date and the error persists, try upgrading to El Capitan next:

You may also want to consider upgrading to macOS Mojave or macOS High Sierra using a bootable installer:

Cheers!
