microsoft office for os x el capitan

Can anybody help me understand why I cant download office 365 2016 when clearly it should be supported by my system?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

To all people who cannot upgrade their Mac to Sierra or above because planned obsolescence, here's the direct download link to the 16.15 version.

From the Microsoft web site.


macOS: Office for Mac is supported on the three most recent versions of macOS. When a new version of macOS is released, the Office for Mac Operating System requirement becomes the then-current three most recent versions: the new version of macOS and the previous versions.


With the release of Mojave, it may no longer be compatible with El Capitan.
