Apple Carplay doesn't work

I'm having an issue with carplay; I just got the IPhone Xs and apple car play does not work. Any time I plug in my IPhone, it says the apple car play can't be started in my car (2017 Mercedes Benz E300) and on my phone it says MB Infotainment is not supported. I restarted my phone and switched cables and it still does not work; I also have the latest version of IOS.

Please Apple fix this issue. I want to use carplay in my car. Android Auto works fine when I use my Samsung Phone but I would like to use Apple Carplay.

iPhone XS, iOS 12

Jullybully,

Start with this:

Set up CarPlay with your iPhone

I've seen several other posts where MB owners have had issues. Their solution was a reset to the system in the car. You might check the owner's manual or the dealer.

Let us know how it turns out.

So I've seen a good deal of traffic about IPhone X's not working with CarPlay in Honda's with no real resolution. There appears to be something nefarious going on with Apple or Honda or both not resolving this problem. It's been an issue for over a year now.

Here's a summary of the issue:

IPhone X will not connect to CarPlay. If you delete the car from the phone and the phone from the car, you can occasionally get it working again, but it eventually fails again. Other supporting facts:

1. Using the Apple factory supplied cable. (Used several different ones in fact.)

2. I took the same cable and same phone on vacation with me in October 2018. I used them in 2 different GM vehicles (Chevy Cruze and Chevy Tahoe). I both cases CarPlay worked flawlessly.

3. I still have an old IPhone 5S v12.1. It works flawlessly with CarPlay in my Ridgeline, using the same cable that I use with the IPhoneX.

4. Right after I got my IPhoneX about 9 months ago, I assumed it to be a phone problem since my 5S and 6S worked fine, so I made Apple swap out my IPhoneX for another one. The problem did not go away.

5. I've been to 2 different Honda dealerships on this issue. The first one about a month ago did not acknowledge being aware of the issue and said they would contact "the factory" for consultation. After 3 weeks of crickets from them, I went to a second dealership. This one was aware of the problem and seemed all to eager to lay it at the feet of Apple (which may be entirely appropriate.) He went so far to tell me: "Android phones work fine in our vehicles."

6. Dealer today gave me a website:Handsfreelink.comand phone number888-528-7876. I haven't called yet, but did go to the website. Interestingly when you try to describe your vehicle and what phone you are using, it plays out at IPhone 7.... no IPhone 8's or X's listed. I thought this might be a car model year issue, so reset it from my 2017 model Ridgeline to a 2019 model year Ridgeline. Same result, nothing beyond IPhone 7 is listed.

7. This clearly seems to be some sort of speed-related, handshaking issue on initial phone connection, and it needs to get fixed!

8. As ridiculous as it seems, I'm considering getting a phone number active again on my old IPhone 5S just to get the CarPlay to work.

I can't get mine to work with my iPhone Xs. 2018 Porsche. I don't think Porsche has very sophisticated electronics. They only support wired connection which is very inconvenient. Unfortunately mine does not have pre installed navigation. They said I would not need it with carplay. Now they want $3800 to add the nav. Is this an Apple or Porsche issue?

Interesting. My car is in the shop so I can’t test this right now but I believe I had over 2 gigs of cellular data when it stopped working but I can’t be sure

If that turns out to be the problem that would be great but I’m a little sceptical since after I took my car to the shop I got a rental car that had CarPlay and it worked fine on the same version of iOS that had failed on my real car

I’ve since upgraded my iPhone to 12.1 and am hoping that might fix the problem once I get my car back and can test it

I'm having same issue with CarPlay; it is working fine with my iPhone 7 (iOS 11) and was working fine with my old iPhone 6s (iOS 12), while on my new iPhone Xs (iOS 12.1) apple car play does not work.

Any time I plug in my iPhone Xs, it says the apple car play can't be started (2018 Mercedes Benz GLE) and on the CarPlay system setting does't show the car (while is visible on the iPhone 7). I have also pressed and hold the voice control on the steering wheel and it activates siri, but it's not starting the CarPlay.

I have reset the car system, switched off the iPhone Xs, but nothing has worked.

I noticed that while the iPhone Xs is plugged in, the car system seems to attempt to connect (i.e. showing for few seconds the possibility to have the CarPlay starting automatically, i.e. recognised for few seconds CarPlay but then lost it).

Cleary this is an Apple issue (either iOS 12.1 & iPhone Xs), the car is brand new (one month) and it's working fine with other iPhones, it's quite upsetting to see many people with this type of problem from a brand new iPhone

I just switched from an iPhone 7 to the iPhone XSMax. I also have a 2016 GMC Yukon with which my iPhone 7 worked perfectly well using CarPlay. However, it will not work with my new phone. My husband just bought a 2019 GMC Yukon and my phone works perfectly using CarPlay. I’ve gone through all of the recommended steps for getting this to work in my vehicle to no avail. Apple please fix this issue.
