Wakes from sleep at 3 AM every Tuesday night

Hi. I keep my MacPro in the bedroom where I have my desk. The last two Tuesday nights I am awoken at 3AM (more precisely 2:27 AM) by the monitor turning on and my computer waking from sleep. I have checked the Console and can't figure out what program or operation makes the computer wake. I guess that some program may be backing up data at this time, but the Console report doesn't seem to name a specific program. Wondering if anyone can help me. Below is the console report from the last 3 AM awakening.

Thanks. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Gordon

Welcome to the forums, more or less!

Unfortunately, I can't interprete the console very well, but here's something you might not have tried:

Go to system preferences (in the apple menu), then select the Energy Saver pane. in the lower right corner of this pane, you should see a "Schedule..." button. Press this. You'll see a drop-down menu, showing a "Start up or wake" checkbox, followed by a drop-down day-of-week menu and a time entry box. You'll also see another checkbox, either shutdown or sleep, followed by a day of week and time box.

If the "startup or wake" is selected, try unchecking it. If this was the issue, it'll stop the computer from turning on. I donno why it'd be set at 2:27 am, but hopefully that's the problem.

If not, I bow to someone of greater knowledge.

Nothing is in the Schedule to start-up/sleep. That is not activated on my system. Hopefully somebody else may have an idea?

I don't have a lot of programs running on my system at this time: Quicken, Aperture, Photoshop essentials, and the basic iLife software so I don't know which of these if any might be the problem. I have checked out these and they don't have a scheduled backup time.

could be a couple of different things.

The system cleanup crons are scheduled to run at around 3am.

you could have a program configured to auto update on (Tuesday) at (2.27)

NAV, MS Autoupdate, Apple Update, and a couple other programs I have that run at odd times do not have an entry in startup items.

Intel8254x -- Link down -- 00:17:f2:05:cc:b8

appears to indicate whatver is running is trying to establish an internet connection. (supporting the thought of an autoupdater running)

link up/down auto neg advertise

are likely TCP related auto negotiate, advertise, like the system is asking a router for a DHCP address, or negotiating connection speed/protocols.

which of your devices has a MAC address of 00:17:f2:05:cc:b8

Since the log mentions bluetooth, perhaps you have a blutooth device (like a phone or PDA) trying to sync. (Do you have activesync installed?)

This happened again last night and the same line is in the console. How can I find out what device has this address?

I do not have a phone or PDA that has bluetooth. Only my mouse and keyboard have that. I'm not sure if I have activesync installed either.

Sorry for my ignorance. I'm really trying to figure this out but am new to the Mac.

I just found out that

00:17:f2:05:cc:b8

is my Built-in Ethernet 1 hardware address. But I
cannot understand how Ethernet would be doing this.
Rather some other program would probably be trying
to update using Ethernet maybe.

Any program you have, to include Apple Software Update, may be configurable to automatically check for updates on a schedule you specify.

The first 3 that come to mind are:
Apple Software Update
Symantec AV auto-update (check the scheduler function)
MS Office Updater
