De-banding.

Is there a filter to de-band, video, filter, in FCP 5.1, or would the de-interlace filter fill that purpose?

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

What do you mean by de-band? Are you referring to color banding, which occurs when you are dealing with color gradients? If so, I dont think you can do much besides apply a blur to the area.

Just in case it's of use -

I've had orange bands across the screen through my DSR11 to TV and found it was caused by different tapes with their differing manufacturers lubricants wreaking havoc with the playing head. Cleaning cleared it up.

Not tracking - head clog. Cleaning clears the clogged head(s) so all the data can be read again. Hopefully.

This is banding. Is this what you were talking about? If it's interlace that's a whole different thing.

I think so.

I'm doing log and capture and, on some of the video, I'll have a green line (for about 1 frame) flash onto the screen.

You should probably run a cleaning tape. Be sure and use the same brand as the tapes you're using.

We're trying to help but we have an intrinsic jargon barrier going on here. Banding and dropout are not related.
This Reduce Banding filter of yours, umm, it reduces banding. It works by averaging chroma sampling frequencies which we've already determined you don't need.

What happens when you apply it to one of your problem clips?
