For me the swipe function works only when I choose space and not when I choose overlay
On my iMac, nothing happened when I simultaneously pressed fn and f12 (until I enabled Dashboard in Mission Control prefs).
What happens if you press "fn + F12"?
I had all of this enabled as an overlay prior to the update -- so looks like Apple is munging people's settings. I re-enabled it and it's working now.
