Macbook 12" 2017 boots up after touching the trackpad??

Hi guys,

I've googled this down but I can't seem to find any other threads or forum for this particular "event". I would expect that if your Macbook is completely shut down, you can only reboot your device when pressing the power-on button. In my case, pressing anywhere on the trackpad initiates the boot process (shows Apple logo and white progression bar like a normal boot sequence, so no it's not in sleep or hibernate mode :-) Needless to say that this extremely annoying when accidentally touching the trackpad when f.e. moving your (shut down) device. I've looked around in system pref's but can't seem to find any setting over there...

Soooo, cutting to the chase now --> Is this actually a new Apple feature or something and if yes, how can I turn this off?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

MacBook, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

It's a new feature on the 2018 MacBook Pro but not on the 2017 MacBook. See the following from How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support

Your MacBook Pro (2016 and newer) or MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017) also turns on when you do these things:

  • Open the lid of your Mac, even if it's not connected to power.
  • Connect your Mac to a power adapter while its lid is open3.
  • Connect your Mac to a power adapter while its lid is closed and it's connected to an external display.

Additionally, MacBook Pro (2018) turns on when you press any key on the keyboard or press the trackpad.

I don't know why it is happening on yours.

Hi Foxfifth,

Thanks for the quick reply! Glad to learn that it is apparently a new feature. I had a firmware update not so long ago and my device is only 3 months old; maybe this feature is now also build in, who knows.. anyway, it’s still annoying and I hope somebody knows a way to turn this feature off..

Have a nice day and thanks for your support! :-)
