My iPOD is not being recognized by my computer.....

I have a 30GB white iPOD. It charges and everything. Nothing seems to be wrong with it. My computer can't recognized it. I can't load/unload songs beacuse of this. I have 2 2GB nanos (the new ones) that work fine. What do I do?

You know, my new ipod (The 30 GB) was also not being recognized by my laptop and wasn't even charging.

I think I finally figured out that the usb cord in my laptop didn't have enough power and now I am using my brothers desktop and it seems to work finally.

HOWEVER, now that it didn't charge successfully the first time for a few hours like recommended and I was playing around with it to make it work, I am afraid that my battery is all messed up.

When I thought I was charging it, it really was using up the battery. And there were times my computer would freeze in the middle of the process so I would have to restart my computer

Would anyone know if my ipod will be ok?

anby: as far as i know the only possible damage that could have been done to ur ipod is that the battery may never become fully charged. its my understanding that if u do not let the battery in most electronics ie: ipods, cell phones, ect. fully charge the first time that the battery will never become fully charged and result in shorter time play. as for ur computer crashing its probably just a coincidence with the ipod if the pc does not crash any other time i would not worry about it. maybe reinstalling itunes would fix the crashing

i also tried every suggestion on the support pages to solve this problem (two different computers with two different versions of itunes wouldn't recognize my 20G ipod). finally - i tried what one user suggested and under "settings" on my ipod i selected "reset all settings," and now my computer is recognizing my ipod beautifully! too simple - but it worked.

Did you try all the steps in the link provided by Zevoneer?

If you have upgraded to version 7 of iTunes, one thing you need to do is read this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if there are no new drivers available for your computer, reload the drivers following the steps in the article.

If this doesn't work, move on to the link mentioned above. There are a lot of things to try.

I've had this problem aswell and I have a 4gb ipod nano. My ipod will charge when plugged in, but will not be recognised by the computer or itunes, therefore I can put no music on. When I've used the troubleshooting techniques all it says is that my computer does not have the driver required, but my sister has a 2gb version, and she can use hers perfectly and I experience the same problem on other computers. I think it is since she has used hers that I have been experiencing the problem, could this be to blame?
Also, where do I get the drivers needed if these need to be reinstalled?

I've tried everything on the troubleshooting menus and they haven't helped. Got any suggestions?
